Japanese Festival ‘08
The school festival at Waseda senior high was really lively. The event was not only limited to their school students. It’s an event for everyone and admission was free. This was quite a last minute one for me as I already had a handful of activities planned. I didn’t stay there for long, only for about an hour and a half.
Everywhere was pasted with stylishly designed flyers. Most of them are hand-drawn in anime/manga style. Some features Pikachu, Luffy, Doraemon, etc…
Me and my company really wanted to center the haunted hospital classroom. But the queue is… I actually saw a girl with thick make up, wearing a doctor’s coat splashed with blood. Cool isn’t it? I wanted to see more.
Through anime, we learnt that the nurse in a school can be pretty cute. Some students even pretend to be sick, just for the nurse. However I can’t find a clinic in my school. I was sent home when I reported sick.
Slide show and gallery in the English classroom, OC room and Seminar room. The whole room is pasted with smiley faces of the student from all grade 1, grade 2 and grade 3. Those pictures where taken during their fun times like CCA, school activities and excursion.
Before leaving for lunch at paragon, I wanted a pre-lunch meal in one of the cafe. Unexpectedly, EVERYTHING was sold out. Despite of that, the cafe is full. Live bands had been playing Japanese music non-stop on the stage. They aren’t bad, better than most of those on some TV band competition.
Japanese school festival is indeed something culturally different. It’s regretful for me, being unable to stay for a longer duration for the activities. Unlike funfair or natsumatsuri, all the stalls are actually classrooms. The students had changed their tranquil classroom environment to lively stalls that can be a cafe, gallery hall or merchandise stall. This indeed created much fun for the students as well as the visitors.
